What Are the Signs of a Pellet Mill Failure?
Pellet mills are vital and frequently used in some industries, so failures are unavoidable with long-term use. Based on our experience as a pellet mill manufacturer, here are the key warning signs:
Uneven or scratched pellet surfaces. This means the mill's internal blades are faulty. Intact blades produce smooth, nearly uniform pellets.
Overly smooth pellet surfaces. This rare issue signals too many hard impurities in raw materials or insufficient ring die compression. Enlarge the compression hole and always check raw materials for hard impurities beforehand.
Risk of machine clogging. High moisture in pellets causes clogging. Test pellet moisture first—if too high, dry the pellets (e.g., sun-dry). Damp pellets increase machine load and disrupt operation, so avoid using them.
Loud or abnormal noise. Loud/unusual sounds during operation usually mean the mill has cracks (a clear fault). Stop and inspect the machine immediately.
