Pellet Mill Parameters
An improper gap between the pellet mill's die and roller is a key quality issue. A too-large gap prevents tight contact, leading to insufficient pelleting pressure and loose, powder-prone pellets. To fix this, shut down the mill, measure the gap with a feeler gauge, and adjust to a narrow range. Check roller bearings and replace if excessively wobbly.
Wear on the die and roller also causes problems. Worn die holes or roller grooves reduce material compaction and grip, resulting in uneven pellets. Regularly inspect the die—replace if severely worn—and choose durable materials. Grind or replace worn rollers to restore functionality.
Insufficient conditioning temperature hinders material binding. Ensure adequate steam supply to raise temperature, allow proper conditioning time, and check for steam pipe blockages.
Improper cutter position or speed leads to pellet breakage. A cutter that’s too far from the die or rotates too slowly causes unprompted fracturing. Adjust the cutter to be close to the die and set an appropriate speed for clean cuts.
