Main Causes of Raw Material Loss in Pellet Mills
Pellet mills turn wet powder or crush dry lumps into desired pellets, featuring easy assembly, disassembly and cleaning. Yet raw material loss is unavoidable during production, with main causes as follows:
Moisture loss during pelleting
This is critical. The moisture content of finished pellets is typically 2%-3% lower than raw materials. Raw materials also lose moisture during transportation and storage, especially high-moisture ones. Controlling moisture is key to reducing loss, as it cuts dust, eases pelleting and lowers costs.
Fine powder leakage
Poor equipment design may cause powder to leak through exhaust ducts, leading to loss and environmental issues.
Moisture loss during grinding
An improperly designed grinding system traps heat, causing moisture loss. It may even trigger fires, risking safety and reducing efficiency. Regularly monitor material temperatures before and after grinding.
