How to Make Homemade Bio-Organic Fertilizer – Process Involving Pellet Mill

Ingredient Preparation: Mix livestock manure and straw at a 7:3 ratio (based on dry matter) – this ratio ensures a suitable carbon-nitrogen balance, which helps retain nitrogen, improves air permeability, and promotes fermentation. Trace elements and inorganic components needed by plants can be added during pelletizing.
Inoculant Handling: Store the decomposing inoculant in a cool, shaded place (avoid direct sunlight). Activate the inoculant 0.5-1 day before use: mix the inoculant with warm water (around 35℃) at a 1:10 ratio, add 1% brown sugar and 1% wheat bran each, and let it stand for 3-4 hours (do not exceed 12 hours, as activity decreases after that). 10kg of inoculant can treat 20-25 cubic meters of chicken manure.
Fermentation & Maturation: Mix the activated inoculant with crushed straw, then blend with manure to adjust moisture content to 50-55%. Pile the mixture into trapezoidal heaps (80-120cm high, ≥2.5m wide) for open-air fermentation. Start turning the heap on days 2-3, and repeat every 2 days (to supply oxygen, control temperature, and kill pathogens). Maintain a temperature of 50-70℃ (turn to cool if over 70℃). The fermentation cycle is 25-40 days: add water if moisture is too low (days 10-15) and cover during rain. When fermentation ends, the material will have ≤35% moisture, be loose, odorless, and smell like fertile soil.
Pelletizing: Use a mixer to add necessary trace elements/inorganic substances, then use an organic fertilizer granulator to make spherical pellets, or a pellet mill to produce cylindrical pellets (cylindrical ones are usually compound fertilizers, no additional chemical fertilizers needed when applying).
