A hammer mill can process multiple biomass feed stocks such as wood shavings, straw and tree branches into crushed materials. The crushing performance of the hammer mill directly governs the quality of downstream raw materials. When the hammer mill suffers large fluctuations in output particle size, the mixed coarse and fine particles will bring many troubles to subsequent production procedures. Materials with inconsistent particle sizes create variable extrusion resistance inside the pellet mill, which easily causes irregular pellet formation and higher fines ratio, reducing the qualified pellet yield of the pellet mill.

The primary causes of uneven particle size include hammer wear, localized screen clogging, fluctuating feed rates and unstable fan air pressure.

During daily production, operators need to routinely inspect the screen of the hammer mill, clear blocked materials promptly, replace worn hammers, maintain steady uniform feeding and stabilize air duct pressure. Proper operation ensures the hammer mill delivers output materials with consistent particle size, supplying qualified feed stock for follow-up processing.
