What should you note when choosing wood pellet materials? Here are 5 key points:
Can different types of wood chips be mixed?
Saying "pure wood chips" doesn't mean other types of wood chips can't be mixed in. Wood chips from various woods (such as rosewood and poplar), wood shavings, sawdust, and waste scraps from furniture factories are all acceptable. More broadly, things like crop straws and peanut shells can also be used as raw materials for wood pellet mills, though the resulting pellets would be called straw pellets rather than wood pellets.
Size after crushing?
Raw materials like sawdust and branches must be crushed by a grinder before pelleting. The crushed size depends on the intended pellet diameter and the aperture size of the pellet mill's die. If the crushed particles are too large or too small, it will affect output and even cause a failure to discharge materials.
What to do if raw materials get moldy?
If raw materials get moldy, they turn black, and the cellulose in the wood chips is decomposed by microorganisms, making it impossible to press them into qualified pellets. If you have to use them, it's recommended to mix them with over 50% fresh wood chip raw materials; otherwise, qualified pellets can't be produced.
